More about the Knights of Columbus in General:Whether you want to be part of the 4th Degree Color Guard or you joined to enhance your relationship with God, St. Anastasia's Knights of Columbus Council is right for you. The Knights of Columbus is the largest Catholic volunteer service organization. It was founded in 1882 by Fr. Michael J. McGivney in the basement of St. Mary's Church in New Haven, Connecticut. Our organization was named in honor of Christopher Columbus and has dedicated our principles to Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism. Currently (as of 2008) there are 1.75 million men in approximately 14,000 councils world wide. Over 125 years after our founding fathers have taken their vows of secrecy in St. Mary's basement, we still stand strong as a firm advocate and defender of civil and religious rights for all. All of our order's ceremonial and business meetings are restricted to members, though other events are open to the public. FamilyFamily is the paramount in the Knights of Columbus. In fact, it's almost like one big family; husbands, wives, children, widows, college students, and religion. All of K of C programs allow families to work together, involving everyone to aid their Church, their Community, and one another. Activities revolve around the family: picnics, dances, Corporate Communions, family breakfasts, and many more all designed to involve the family and community. ChurchMaking sure the Catholic Church remains vigorous and undiminished is one of the primary missions of the Knights of Columbus. To help counter the decline in the number of candidates to the priesthood and religious life, the K of C instituted a program called the RSVP (Refund Support Vocations Program). Since the RSVP program began in 1981, it has provided more than $41 million to nearly 66,000 men and women to enable them to pursue their vocations. Last year, 4,731 seminarians, postulants and novices received a total of more than $2.7 million in support from 2,590 councils, assemblies and circles. CommunityWithin the community, the knights help to feed the hungry and help shelter the homeless. They help senior citizens remain healthy and active. They conduct and participate at blood drives, and they fight to protect the right to life for all individuals. In 2007, our world-wide order gave US $144,911,781 directly to charity and performed over 68,695,768 man hours of voluntary service. InsuranceThe Knights of Columbus, as a fraternal organization, provides low-cost insurance and financial products for Brother Knights. Our order's insurance program has more than $60 billion of life insurance policies, and holds the highest insurance ratings given by A. M. Best, Standard & Poor's, and the Insurance Marketplace Standards Association. The K of C insurance program is open to all Brother Knights and their families. YouthFuture Knights can be found in our Columbian Squires organization which consists of young Catholic men age 12 to 18 which trains them in leadership. It's motto "Esto Dignus-Be Worthy." Another place young Knights can be found is in the councils on college and university campuses. In addition, K of C activities for young people include Easter egg hunts, picnics, free throw contests, essay contests, and many more! Church...Family...Community...Insurance...YouthAs you can see, there are few area of life that the Knights don't touch and make better. More about the St. Anastasia Knights of Columbus Council #13453:St. Anastasia's Knights of Columbus has been serving our parish since 2003 at the request of Fr. Kenneth Kaucheck who was our first Chaplain. The council was requested by Father Kaucheck even though another council existed at St Alan's church. Fr. Ken wanted a council which would be active within the St. Anastasia parish to help bring families and men closer to God. Since 2003 our Worthy Council has achieved the Star Council Award 3 times. This award is the top reward presented by Supreme Council to those councils which meet requirements in service programs, membership growth of 100%, and insurance quota during a fraternal year. We are honored to live in a community of such outstanding individuals who are inspired by their faith. Action speaks louder than words, and some of the ways we chose to support our faith is by:

Help us Build a ChurchPope Benedict XVI praised Father Michael J. McGivney for his "remarkable accomplishment" of founding the Knights of Columbus.Join us in answering his call. This is a statue of Father Michael J. McGivney looking over a family much like his own brother's family that lost their father/husband. From Fr. Michael J. McGivney's vision was born an insurance program second-to-none geared at taking care of Knight's families if something should happen to their father/husband.
